For my week 02 blog I described the simple design of the Umail login page. To better get a grasp on the redesign ideas, I feel the use of a survey would work really well. Through the use of survey monkey, I could send out a survey to all students and faculty asking questions based on there attitude toward the umail login page and what they would and would not change in terms of redesigning in order to better fit the needs of the users.

Surveying is a useful technique to understand overall responses from a large amount of users, for example, how they find the website satisfying or which features they like the most. However, if you want to focus on improving specific features of the website (login page), shadowing might be also a good idea to understand how actually people interact with the site. At the same time, if you are considering survey, please try to think about which kinds of questions you want to ask. Even for the same questions, providing different options might influence the validity of user responses.
